Lake Gwelup Physiotherapy provides vertigo, dizziness and vestibular physiotherapy for patients in Gwelup and across Perth’s northern suburbs including Karrinyup, Stirling, Balcatta, Innaloo, Carine and surrounding areas.
Dizziness, vertigo and balance concerns can affect confidence, mobility and daily activities. Vestibular physiotherapy may assist with assessing the cause of symptoms and developing an individualised management plan to support recovery and improved balance.
Principal physiotherapist Chris Warne has completed Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) approved postgraduate training in the assessment and management of vertigo and vestibular disorders and has more than 10 years of clinical experience treating these conditions in private practice. He regularly undertakes ongoing professional development to remain current with contemporary vestibular rehabilitation approaches.
Our physiotherapists provide evidence-informed assessment and management for a range of vestibular and balance-related conditions.
What is Vertigo?
Vertigo is the sensation of spinning or movement that may occur due to disturbances within the vestibular (inner ear balance) system or related structures.
One of the most common causes is Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV), which can lead to brief episodes of dizziness triggered by certain head movements such as:
- Turning in bed
- Bending forward
- Looking upward
- Rapid changes in head position
A physiotherapy assessment can help determine whether symptoms are consistent with BPPV or another vestibular condition and guide appropriate management.
Assessment & Treatment for BPPV
If BPPV is identified, treatment may include specific repositioning manoeuvres designed to assist with symptom resolution. These techniques are performed following a thorough assessment and clear explanation by your physiotherapist.
Some patients experience improvement following treatment, while others may require follow-up sessions or additional vestibular exercises depending on their presentation.

- Vestibular neuritis and labyrinthitis
